You’re probably thinking that contractors don’t really need blogs. Contrary to that thought, HubSpot found that 43% of businesses acquired a new customer just by having a blog. Guess you want a blog now, huh? Fact: Each blog post is an opportunity to attract a new customer.
Your blog is just one of the ways you can educate your prospective customers. Educating them demonstrates your knowledge; and knowledge is power. While you’re educating your customers you’re also building authority and trust with all prospective clients.
Once you’ve started your blog, you can’t just start putting words on the screen. You must have a purpose.
Here are a few helpful tips you can use to get a blog started and utilize it for helping you get those quality contracting leads.
- Be unique – Dare to be different from other contractors. It will pay huge dividends when you stand out from your competitors, just by showing your personality with your words.
- Write relevant content – If you’re a roofer looking for leads, write like one. If you specialize in siding, don’t talk about plumbing just because it interests you. Make sure you focus on your specific industry.
- Know your target market – If you don’t know who you’re wanting to attract, then you have nothing. Your target market or buyer persona as we call it, is a type of person you want to attract to your site. Why? Because they are going to be the most interested in the services you offer. Take some time to really figure out who you want to target, trust me, it’s the best thing you can do when creating your blog.
- Be specific in your posts – Pick a topic and stick with it. Don’t go on tangents about three other topics. You’ll confuse your audience and the chances of them abandoning your site increase.
- Be engaging – Keep your readers engaged by writing informative, insightful, and fun content. Rhetorical questions really resonate with readers. It makes them think and they’re more likely to remember your name.
Quality Post, Quality Leads
Now that you decided to start writing a blog, let’s look at some fantastic titles so you can really attract those customers!
- 5 Easy Ways to Replace Your Roof – Here, you are focusing on an emotion (ease) about doing something difficult.
- 7 Questions to Ask Your Contractor – Information. You’re attracting readers by offering research you’ve already done so they don’t have to.
- The Secret to a Headache-Free Remodel – This demonstrates experience in your field and sets you up as an easy-to-work-with expert.
A useful formula to remember is the 4 U’s.
- Ultra-specific
- Unique
- Urgent
- Useful
By incorporating each of these ideas into your title, you will ensure more readership and hopefully, more quality contracting leads.
Consistency is Key
If you only ate a few times a month, you’d be pretty hungry, right? Well, it’s the same way with blogging. Not posting consistently enough will starve your readers and alienate potential customers.
So, try your best (or hire someone) to maintain weekly, even daily blogs. Just remember to keep them relevant and engaging!
Your audience will see you’re committed to your craft and you will develop a trust amongst your readers.
